I think every project manager should aspire to being a champion for change and evolution.

They should have a curiosity for how the future is likely to unfold for their sector of work, new trends and emerging technology.

The project manager is an agent of change, so they should learn to find and present the positive case for the future state. Without that they’ll always be battling some amount of internal resistance; and will fail to create partnerships with stakeholders.

But the future is never certain, even the near future, so they must develop a tolerance of uncertainty and ambiguity. Without that they’ll despair at every change to the ever evolving plan.

A project manager who doesn’t embrace the future state and the uncertain path towards it will be destined to fail.
